Description

The apparatus automatically determines the softening point of bituminous binders by the ring-and-ball method: two samples in brass rings are heated in a beaker at the standard rate, while optical sensors detect the moment the ball touches the reference plate.

A magnetic stirrer and precise control of the 5 °C/min heating rate eliminate the subjectivity of visual reading. The results for both samples and their mean value are shown on the display and stored in memory; data are transferred to a PC via USB.

For softening points above 80 °C a glycerol bath is used — the mode switches automatically with recalculation of the detection threshold.
